Their entry into the tinsel town!

Before entering Bollywood, Akshay was a waiter and an amazing cook at a hotel in Bangkok. While he waited tables there, Twinkle was busy preparing herself for making an entry into Bollywood as an actress. Akshay debuted in the glam world with a minor role in Mahesh Bhatt’s film, Aaj, in 1987. And in the 1990s, he established himself as a Khiladi with a series of films having that name in their titles. Twinkle, on the other hand, debuted in 1995 with Bobby Deol, with a Rajkumar Santoshi directed movie, Barsaat, which turned out to be a moderate hit.

When cupid struck

The two first met during a shoot for Filmfare magazine, in Mumbai, where Akshay developed an instant crush on Twinkle. In one of his interviews with Filmfare, the actor confessed the same and said:

“I met Twinkle for the first time during a photo session with Jayesh Seth for Filmfare. I still have that photograph. Thank you Filmfare!”

However, it was actually during the shooting of their film, International Khiladi, when the two fell for each other, and the rest is history.

What attracted Akshay towards Twinkle

Well, according to this handsome hunk, more than Twinkle’s beauty, it was her qualities that attracted him to her. He even once said:

“Twinkle is one of the most wonderful, talented and head strong women.’’

And, what was it that made Twinkle marry him? Well, on an episode of the popular TV show, Koffee With Karan, Akshay revealed that Twinkle was very confident of her upcoming release, Mela, in 2000. She was certain that it would do well and told him that in case the movie fails to create magic in the box office, she would marry him. Luckily for them, the movie flopped, and soon they got married.

The low-key wedding

The two got married on January 7, 2001, in designer duo as well as friends, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla’s residence, amidst a gathering of just 50 people, and that too in just two hours. Bollywood actor- Aamir Khan, politician- Amar Singh, renowned director- Dharmesh Darshan, were a few of the guests of this wedding. And, it took a lot of time for people to digest the fact that the two were actually married!

Now, the proud parents of two children, Aarav and Nitara, their love, support and respect for each other is what makes their relationship going.

His lady-love and her luck

Well, all we can say is that they are one of the best-looking couples we have in our country today, and an inspiration for all to look up to. And, as Akshay says, it was only because of Twinkle’s unfailing support that encouraged him to become a Bollywood star. She left her career as an actor and became an interior decorator. An entrepreneur, a homemaker, a loving and caring mother and a supporting wife, now that is the true definition of a superwoman, isn’t it? On Koffee With Karan, Akshay also talked about the secret behind their strong relationship. The actor told:

‘’We keep on discovering new things about each other because we are so different. We are poles apart.”

Well, isn’t that what makes two people more compatible as a couple? It surely is!

Also, on being asked about the one decision that changed his life, his answer surely made all the viewers go aww! He said:

“The one idea that changed my life was the day I decided to get married to my wife.’’

Akshay’s sweet dedication to his wife

Well, the super-hot actor had us weak in our knees yet again, when at the music launch of his film, Special 26, he dedicated a song to his wife, which he sang himself in the film as well. Now isn’t that one of the sweetest things a husband can do and that too before their anniversary and a fast-approaching Valentine’s Day? Husbands, we hope you are listening! Not just that, he leaves no opportunity to go gaga over his super-gorgeous wife. In one of his interviews with Filmfare, he spoke about how Twinkle has always been a source of strength for him:

“Twinkle has not only added to my wardrobe but also to my bank balance. I was a scattered person; she is the one who has put me together. After marriage, she has kind of raised me (Laughs). On a serious note, whenever I’ve broken down she’s given me emotional support.”

And in one of his interviews with HT, he also said these beautiful things for his wife:

“Tina (Twinkle) is my best friend. My wife is the best person any man could wish to wake up next to. She holds me up when I’m falling, and puts me down when I’m flying. She makes me laugh when I’m sad, and moans when I am sitting idle. Tina is everything for me. She is my reality check.”

And, even Twinkle is no less when it is about praising her darling husband. She once mentioned in one of her interviews about how Akshay always believed in her and supported her, especially when she decided to switch her career:

“He really believes in my capabilities as a person and that gave me a lot of confidence to switch jobs. Even today, if I do something new, he ensures he is a part of it. For instance, I have been writing a weekly column in a newspaper since a year now (the interview was conducted in September 2014), but he still reads all my pieces before I submit them.”

Well, that is not all! We have something more interesting for you that Twinkle mentioned about Akshay in one of her interviews. The actress revealed the romantic side of Akshay as she said:

“Akshay’s idea of a romantic date is a six-kilometre jog, followed by 500 crunches… TOGETHER! Eeeeks!”

Also, talking about her relationship with Akshay in the same interview, she mentioned:

“It drives me nuts how he has sneakily and steadily wormed his way into becoming my best friend. I like him more now than when I married him!”

The 50-year-old actor has always been there for his family and for him, special occasions mean spending and creating some memorable moments with family. Talking about reaching half-century mark in life, he said:

“Am I allowed to say it feels as good as it did when I turned 21 (laughs)? I’m really enjoying the fact that I have not only reached 50 alive, but also feeling positive about my career, blessed for my health and over the moon with how I’m spending my big 50 on the Swiss Alps with my family.”

Further talking about the resolutions he has taken on his ‘Big 50’, he stated:

“I’ve promised my son more adventurous holidays. I’ve promised my wife that I’d chew my food more. I’ve promised my daughter I’ll stay strong so I can carry her up every mountain her brother wants to climb, and I’ve promised my coach that I’m not going give up — turning 50 means 50 reps of everything, apparently.”

Adding to this, Akshay said the most beautiful line about his lovely wife:

“My wife could buy me an island, but I’ll still just want to walk on Juhu Beach (in Mumbai) holding her hand — something we do for free whenever we want, but to me that’s what I call magic.”
