When Shah Rukh Khan’s Mother Didn’t Recognise Him, And Couldn’t See His Work

There wouldn’t be a prouder moment for any person in the world, than that of showing his or her acclaimed work to their parents. But, sadly destiny plays a crucial part in everyone’s life and there are some unfortunate ones who don’t get a chance to see and live that moment. Among them, one such is our very own Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan whose parents did not live to see his remarkable work and the success he went on to achieve in his life. Many would be aware that before entering films, SRK acted in stage plays and went on to make his debut on television with cult serials like ‘Fauji’ and ‘Circus’. Recently, we stumbled upon an old interview of the star, where he opened up about a wish that unfortunately couldn’t be fulfilled. The actor wished to show the first episode of his serial ‘Circus’ to his late mother Lateef Fatima Khan, but by then she was very unwell and delirious to an extent that she didn’t even recognise her son.

On Farooque Sheikh’s show ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’, SRK was asked about his association with filmmaker Aziz Mirza, with whom he has worked in films like ‘Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman’, ‘Yes Boss’ and ‘Chalte Chalte’. However, not many would know that Aziz Mirza was also the director of TV series ‘Circus’.
Talking about it and opening up on his late mother’s this incident, he said on the show, “I had met Aziz very early (in my career). I had worked with him in his serial ‘Circus’ and before that I had done an episode in ‘Wagle Ki Duniya’ with him for which I had come to Bombay. When I had finished it, at that time my mother was very unwell, she was on her deathbed. And we started shooting ‘Circus’ at that time. I had a wish that I wanted to show the first episode of ‘Circus’ to my mother as it was my first big serial. We shot it in Bombay, earlier I did shooting in Delhi, so it didn’t carry the filmy baat in it. So, I had this wish to show the first episode to my mother. So, I remember Aziz coming to Delhi with that first episode and we tried to show it to her in the hospital. We took special permission and put it on Television to show it to her. But, by then she was very delirious and she didn’t recognise me.”
