Controversial Life Of Roopa Ganguly Aka Draupadi Of ‘Mahabharat’

Indian actress Roopa Ganguly, better known as Draupadi from the famous TV series “Mahabharata”, is now a BJP leader. In 2015 she joined Bharatiya Janata Party and in 2016 she also contested election from West Bengal legislative assembly from Howrah North area. However she lost.

This year she was in the news as she has sustained head injuries after she was attacked with stones and sticks by a group of 30-35 locals, allegedly Trinamool Congress (TMC) members, near Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas district.

If we talk about the personal life of Draupadi Of ‘Mahabharat’, her life was filled with full on ups and downs. Born on 25 November 1966 in Kalyani near Kolkata, Roopa grew up in a joint family. She worked in many Hindi and Bangali TV series and movies.

Troubled Married Life..

In 1992 she married with Mechanical Engineer Dhrubo Mukerjee. In an interview Ganguly said that her husband started feeling insecure about her recognition as an actress. She has been through a turbulent marriage where she had even put her career on a backburner, moved to Kolkata, became a domesticated housewife, was denied money for daily expenses and as a final resort, attempted suicide not once but thrice. Once before her son was born (Akash was born in 1997), twice later.

Stay in Live-in-relationship..

After separated with husband Dhrubo Mukerjee, Roopa again found solace in a much younger man Dibyendu, who was a singer. She even moved in with him and life seemed perfect for her at that time. However, Roopa’s happy times didn’t last long as Dibyendu then broke off with her as he fell in love with another fellow actress Swastika.

Life surrounded in controversy..

Roopa stirred a controversy yet again when she appeared in popular TV show “Sach Ka Saamna“. She unraveled many aspects of her personal life which shocked the audience to the core. She admitted her addiction to smoking and confessed of having love affairs outside her marriage and also being asked for sexual favours instead of roles in Bollywood.
The worst insult, Roopa Ganguly had said was when she had received a call on her landline, which said that someone had paid Rs.50,000 for a night with her!

She had no plan to become actress..

Famous for her role of Draupadi, Roopa think that she is not a good actress. She was told that they she do not know how she did acting. But that was her true and good try, which proved to be the best for her. According to Roopa, she had no plans to become an actress. It all happened suddenly. However, she worked hard for the role of Draupadi. Roopa has worked with many top directors of the industry.

Apart from actor she is a singer and politician too..

Apart from being an actress, Roopa is also a playback singer and politician. She became popular after playing Mahabharat heroine character Draupadi in the hit television series “Mahabharat” and is mostly known for her roles in films like “Padma Nadir Majhi”, “Yugant”, and “Antarmahal”.

She started working in Hindi TV series, with “Karam Apnaa Apnaa”, “Love Story”, and more recently in “Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo”.
She won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for rendering her voice in the Bengali film “Abhosheyshey”.
She even became a part of ploitics as she joined the Bharatiya Janta Party in 2015.
