From Farming in Panvel to Cooking Lip Smacking Payesh; The Other Side of Rakhee You Don’t Know Of!

She made her Bollywood debut in 1970 with Jeevan Mrityu starring Dharmendra. And from there on she has been a part of popular films like Baseraa, Trishul, Doosara Aadmi, Karan Arjun etc. The National Award winning actress Rakhee turns 70 today. Born on Aug 15, 1947, she is as old as the Indian independence. On the occasion of her birth anniversary, Dailybhaskar.com talks to her daughter Meghna Gulzar as she shares some interesting memories about her mother.

Q Share some memories of Rakhee’s birthday. How is it going to be this year?

My mother has never hosted any birthday parties ever. In fact the only big, fancy bash in her life has been her wedding! It has always been a small and simple family affair. My father’s (Gulzar) birthday falls three days after my mother’s birthday on Aug 18 so it’s a cozy celebration. The family, which includes my mom, dad, my husband (Govind Sandhu) and my son (Samay) we travel outdoors. If at home, mom cooks for all of us. She enjoys cooking, especially payesh and the payesh she makes is delicious. This year she turns 70, just like the Independence of India. Like every year this year too we are going to keep it simple, as I am also busy with my film.
