When Karisma Rejected ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, But Destiny Had Other Plans

Further, the actress recalled as to how she came to know about her winning the prestigious National Film Award for the film. She said, “And like I came to know about it (when) I was in doing the world tour and I think we were in Toronto somewhere in Canada and in fact it was Tabu the actress (Karisma’s ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’ co-star) who called me and said ‘Congratulations you have done it’. I said I’ve done what, what are you talking about? Oh! You won the next National Award again oh great. So are you mad, you have won the National Award and I said for what? She says for ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’. I couldn’t believe it, I was like Oh My God and we’ve have just come back from the show. It was in the three o’Clock in the morning and I woke up my mum and my sister and they were like we couldn’t believe it, I think it was one of the most memorable moments of my life.”

Well, we can say that it happened for good, for we cannot imagine anyone but Karisma Kapoor playing the role of Nisha, which indeed was a memorable performance. Definitely, she took it up as a challenge and it turned out to be a major turning point in her career.
